Been looking into the fuel pump duel voltage. I will be fitting a new fuel pump and relay feed and like the idea of a hidden kill switch. What sort of current does the pump need so I can get a new relay and how heavy does the wire need to be?

I have a starter rebuild kit and a relay for the mod for it.

Are there many other mods that are worth doing while I'm at it?

If anything people tend to disable the dual voltage to the fuel pump leaving just a12 volt supply. There's a mod which includes joining or linking wires around the pump relay area so it maintains full power.

Also I think I read somewhere some replacement pumps don't like half power hence the above mod, I think?

I'd be doing away with the resistor at the same time.

yep shocking iinit. I guess its a sign that our cars are becoming really rare. Which has plus and minus points. mainly minus points.

I have a kill switch in mine made from leftover auto gearbox wiring. The thing is , I've never once been bothered to use it, so i would suggest a kind of "auto on" kill switch that you have to press or the car wont start. I cant , off the top of my head think how that would work though.

If it were me I think I'd take the opportunity to get it jacked up, take all the wheels off and put a load of underseal under the chassis and in the wheelarches to protect against future rust. It'll be loads nicer to to this in a garage over the winter without the pressure of having it back on the road in a day or two as you can take your time and do it in stages.

No probs. Also, while the wheels are off, I'd crack out the socket set and take the brake callipers off their sliders and grease the sliders up. Some of mine were seized solid when I got my car meaning only one front brake was working properly, so a bit of preventive maintenance would be a good idea while you're in a warm dry garage with a radio and beer.
