every now and then when coming to a stop the engine idle is not what it should be, occasionally it even cuts out while hovering just above and below the 500 mark, most of the time it does it it hunts up and down between 500 - 700 - any ideas what I should be looking for?

Check your plugs and leads, this cured the same sort of thing with mine, also do a diagnostic on the ecu.

i had/have a similar problem my inlet gasket is leaking above the starter try that spray some ether based product in the area of inlet manifold (with engine running) easy start is a good one it should speed the revs up when it sucks it in if that makes any sense
Ah, forgot that one, Easystart is the stuff to use.
yeah i had the same prob now and then... after stripping my engine down also noticed the gasket was leaking so could well be that...
it great having an engine out of the car u can get to every bolt lol
Sid always suggest the ISC valve...
i have that same problem. i will try that tonite , how would i solve that problem if it is that gasket?

Are we talking about a supra here ?

On a supra the base mixture is controlled by the airscrew on the afm .. off idle the lambda takes over .. if the lambda has been contaminated or is failing the first sign would be really ****ty mpg and a lack of performance

I'll shut the **** up then shall i
