Nice one man, takes me back to ...... fook me, has it taken me that long to rebuild mine?????

You sure you don't want to send those dodgy lookin CT12's to me?? :crybaby:
Must remember to call AVA Turbo or Turbo Technics 2morrow, gonna hurt my wallet - but it'll be worth it!

See my "Boost Gauge" post, mine are now producing 0PSI and smoking like a Champion Beagle (see, there is someone with a worse set than Charlie :duck: )
so methinks my wallet will have to stretch to a twin tubby rebuild too!!

As far as i no mine are fine but im having them checked anyway deciding wether to get them uprated so the car will kick out 350-400bhp but not sure as yet depends how much it will cost me.

Those 1G turbos seem to be pretty fragile. Have you guys considered going for a custom manifold and a small (T3 or T3/4) single Garrett turbo? Might be similar price to a turbo rebuild and probably more reliable. There would be some other custom work involved like oil lines and downpipe. No idea how feasible it would be, just thought I'd mention it.

Thought about it, then had a nice chat wiv Giles @ Turbo Technics who is of the opinion that out of the 20 or so million £/$ R&D which Mr Toy put into the sequential twin setup and the 50,000 £/$ which has been put into R&D for singles - which one would u trust???
Yes, granted u get more power through the single route but the custom work needed ain't cheap.
For a grand I could get Upgraded/Hybrid CT12's with all the reliability issues sorted which would wack out serious power (with associated other fuel mods etc).
But, for the same money all I would get was a manifold and (possibly) a T3 - no custom work, no additional required mods.
Just my 2p (as I'm on a strict budget at the mo - damn!)

The CT-12's arnt renowned for being unreliable at all or the UK MKiv CT-12A's it seemed so be the jap spec CT-12A's that were fitted with ceramic blades and when the boost was upped tended to be prone to breaking up due to fatigue.. but in standard boost form are no less reliable than the others

Just a thought, don't the 2.0 and 2.5tt's run a true twin set up as opposed to the 2jz and it's sequential set up? And to answer your question, just because they spent 20 or so million on research doesn't mean that it is the best option. For example, with all the money they spent on the Mk4 they came up with that face!!! :happy3:

The 1G CT12 turbos are steel if i recall.. not as fragile as the CT12A's. the mkiv CT12b's come in both format, steel or ceramic. The CT12A's fitted to the 2.5tt are only fragile because of their size, not patrticularly becuase they're ceramic.
