Has anyone replaced their (admittedly very nice, but extremely heavy) stock seats with racing bucket seats?
looking at a document with supra component weights, the driver leather electric seat is 65lbs, passenger is 45lbs.
thats damned heavy, so i'd like to get some lighter ones in there. thats like 2 more spare wheels in the car!
anyone got any advice? i think stu said he was having trouble fitting recaro's, just wondered if anyone else had tried.
cheers

Every car i have ha dive stripped out and put in buckets and the supra will be the same. however i never buy the subframes i get them made up his way you have more say on the seat position (angle, height etc) also i use Konig uckets really good seats but the subframes are around £120 each side. when i get them made up i pay around £50 both sides. and if ur concerended about the safety aspect the frames i get made our made up of steel boxframe and are bolted and welded together and our seriously tough. Anythings possible mate especially with the help of a welder :)

cheers for that, it looks like i need to find a welder to make me custom subframes!
i saw some readymade sparco ones that will go in the mkIII but they were stupidly expensive.. i never thought about getting some made up!
cheers,

I'm on the look out for some bucket seats, although being on the large side, might prove tricky getting my **** in them.

hehe, well im a skinny chap, but i still did myself an injury clambering into (and especially out of) a 355 challenge. the seat is like it has been designed for a 5 year old... and its about 2 foot in from the door.. in a very low car.. with a rollcage!
alas, i did not get to drive it. :crybaby:
(edit)
i found this on Supraforums. I dont visit too much as its always american gangsta crap. its like a forum full of Ali G's.. anyhow some chap has installed Sparco's and it appears he got the ready made brackets too so its not much of a write-up. surprising to see they are a couple of inches higher than stock though

aaiight, peace.. etc etc..
How about removing the runners from some knackered old seats (from what i can see they`re riveted on ) then get either some fabricated sections or box section and make up a simple sub-frame to weld straight onto them , you could custom fit them to your requirements for height/type of bucket seat you go for and you`d still be able to move the seats back n forth on the runners :notworthy
I`ve got some old seats i could possibly butcher the runners off + i`m a fabricator/welder so i might be able to help you knock the sub-frames together once your ready to buy some buckets seats ;)

Apparently Cobra do a MKIII subframe, or so I heard.

that'd be great, how much would you want for 'em?
i think i'll probably leave the leather ones in for daily driving, then take them out and put one bucket in for track days, so ideally i only need the runners for the driver seat.
of course if you've got both spare then that increases my options for taking a passenger along :)
