still trying to work out best settings when driving the supe. first auto-box car i've had.

1. what does the ect do? i'm guessing holds gears longer and kicks down faster?
2. o/d will only lengthen the highest gear won't it? so if i wanna accelerate quick between cars on a dual carriageway at 70mph+ i should have ect on and o/d off, right?
3. how do u get an auto quick off the line. with a bit of mechanical sympathy. am i doin any damage to the car by holding it under its brakes with my left foot and applying throttle with right? haven't tried it yet. what mode should the car be in. one guy said lock it in 2 with ect on. doesn't make sense that tho. cos if its locked in gear why have the ect on.
4. being used to catching hot hatches with lift off oversteeer i'm a bit of a rear drive novice. :gay: . are the supes quite forgiving in a slight tail out scenario with my foot on the throttle? do they punish big style if u lift or brake?
5. if driving down a country road is it best to lock it into 2 so that if it starts to go the box wont give it another gear. thats wot happened at christmas when i first got it. i just did wot my instincts first told me too. (i broke really really really hard. placed my head between my legs. and kissed my **** good bye) .
6. when would i use 'L'?
7. does revvin it in 'p' do any damage to the car? think this mite be a daft question. how long do clutches last on the automatic gearboxes?

cheers

ben

p.s. the clutch question on 7 was a joke. but i have asked that seriously before. :banghead:

1.Yep you guessed it :)

2. o/d will lengthen ratio in all gears ,, best left off unless cruising on a m/way

3. Yep power braking is the best way to get the wheels spinning :)

4.Yeah dont lift .. keep the power on and counter steer or youll end up in the weeds lol

5. I take it you mean a icy country road .. well this is when abs becomes useless .. keep in a low gear ..L or 2 and dont tank it

6. For a quick take off or in a situation where you are likely to lose traction and changing up a gear on little load is undesirable

7. it doesnt have a clutch and reving in P will overheat and eventually damage it (frys the fluid)

cheers

p.s. Noob :duck:

ECT - faster changes.. the ECU doesnt retard as much ignition as it does during a normal change so the changes are a bit quicker between gears. It also lets the engine rev higher before a change but ONLY on partial throttle.. on WOT the car will max the revs out regardless of the ECT switch.
O/D - just keep it on when cruising normally, take it out if it makes you feel better :D Theres a lot of talk about it improving performance with it off.. it doesn't.
yes, thats how to do it, yes it can damage your box but only if you go mad and try it three or four times in short succession or if you hold the revs for too long (max is about three seconds with foot on the brake as it cooks your ATF). Leave long gaps between attempts.
I dunno, cant remember, i have a different diff but on mine it snatches back.
if you want to..
experiment with it, different scenarios eg snow or towing a caravan.
revving any car out of gear damages it.
