cheers
Paul
personally id say C " the big one"
u dont need no gaskets for the "3000" pipe just undo it and remove
as for atf i got told to check it , it should be redish color , if it looks "burned" brownish change it, mine was absolutly horrible,
but as for the 3000 pipe just take it off
hope this helps

I dont know about these but when I used to have the granada's, the only way of telling if the auto box was ok was by the colour of the fluid, red was good but if it was brown, it was on its way out. have had terrible probs with the A4LD Ford boxes.
Sounds like it may have been slightly neglected, I'd do a full service (C is the big one anyway) and change all fluids.
cheers for the help chaps better get on with it then :) last time i checked the atf it looked ok and didnt smell burned but then again i am colour blind :sad2: so it coulv been green for all i know :) also when it changes up from 2nd to 3rd it gives a little jolt is this normal?
change fluid :)
now my mate dan (slurper) said u cant properly change the entire oil on an auto , u have to like water the bad stuff down with new fluid :)
so it will take a few attempts to re new the fluid in the tranny
i got hold of a BIG drum of oil (for free) and changed mine at service then at 1 week intervals for a few months . did the trick :)

mine jolts when i pull away quickly and when it changes up from 2nd to 3rd too. does it need its fluid changing?
When you drain the AT sump you only change a couple of litres. In order to completely flush would require the engine running and someway to remove the old fluid and introduce new fluid at the same time (like when you flush the PS). There are machines that can do this but I don't know of any in my area. I always drain the AT sump when I change my oil and this should help to increase the ratio of new to old fluid. If you want to you could also do some intermediate changes as well. There is also a replaceable filter in the AT gearbox.
Harsh changes can be caused by old fluid. In addition if it is ultimate smoothness you are seeking at the expense of performance you can add a friction modifier which will cause more slippage and give a smoother change. However slippage is not our friend as it generates heat and reduces performance and fuel economy. You should also check the adjustment of the AT throttle cable - if this is over adjusted it will cause harsh changes. I have Redline High-temp ATF in mine at the moment and it seems good.
is the afore mentioned filter fairly easy to get to? im not after mega smooth changes it was just that it was quite harsh to much slippage is indeed bad :) also when i select d or r there is quite a harsh lurch in either direction could this also be caused by old fluid? ill print out the relevant parts off the online tsrm as it probably wont be in the haynes manual :banghead: cheers for the help dudes
