I heard it is advisable to take the rod off it and leave the valve open all the time, is it really worth doing, supposed to preent BHG and get rid of the gurgling behind the dash, I can see it cos there is less chance of the back of the head getting real hot,
worth doing???

That's it highlighted, the lever should move when you change between hot ond cold on the heater control.
I'd personally do the mod even if it was working. Disconnect the vacum pipe, disconnect the plunger from the lever, and then fix the lever in the up position.
You'll still get cold air into the cabin when you need it.

That's what the flippin' noise is! I've been trying to hunt the ficker down and solve it!

i've just done this recently, detatch the rod from the lever and left the lever inthe up position. i didnt disconnect the vacuum pipe though, which one is that, and is it necessary?
cheer,

Disconnection of the vacum pipe isn't important, it's the one that comes out of the top of the VSV.
