Hi all, my first post so stick with me :)

Can I remove, gut both cats and still pass MOT Gasses Test and also will it cause problems with the Lambda sensors reporting stange things to the engine?

i'm no mechanic so dont hold me to this. but my exhaust has no cats on it. Nick at totally custom, who drives a n/a supra (for the record), says that its only cars built after '93 that are required to do the emissions section of the MOT. i think i'm right there. sorry to nick if i'm wrong and quoting from him.

welcome to the sight too. is it your first supe? got it recently? wot is it?

August '92 is when the stricter emissions came in iirc.
But any mkiii supra doesn't come into the newer testing, so you can de-cat to your hearts content :D

And I don't drive a N/A supra just yet :p and hopefully never will as it's going to have to have a blower on it to save my graces :D

I have had many supras, If you want my story here it is. I started of with a MKII which I had for about a year until a lorry made it shorter. I then saught a replacment which I managed to get after a lot of hunting, but then found it to be in a bad state when it came for the MOT (new brake lines, fuel lines, etc) so I sold it on. I then entered the MKIII world. with my present car, which unfortunatly I was ragging a bit to hard and damaged all the near side, which the insurance company said was to much to be repaired so they wrote if off. It has now just come back on the road after 2 years (not enough time or money to get it repaired) But now I am pleased so say she is running again, and I cannot believe it took me this long because I now remember how wonderful she is!

cool bit of a supe devotee then. this is my first. i'd love a two tone mk2 (light blue with a dark blue strip that extends up the rear pillar), louvered rear windscreen add on and a 7m-gte engine in it. one day...

If you have any problems, refer them to the VEHICLE OPERATIONS SERVICES,which is part of the DVLA.I spoke to them last about de-catting mine
he told me there was no problem upto 1992. sorry i have lost the tel number but
you can get it from the DVLA, then at least you heared it from the horses mouth.

Auguest 92 and before does not need to have a cat as it's tested the same as a car from augest 1982 on wards.

6 year old thread?! I own a 87 stock n/a supra, 7mge. I live in thurston county washington so i dont have to worry about emissions. I want to take the cat off of my car but i dont know if i should do it myself or pay someone to do it. is it fairly easy to do? where can i find a cat delete pipe?

You gotta get right under so depends on if you can get there easily. Plenty of delete pipes on ebay, but you'll have to check the right spec. If it were me, I'd take it to the exhaust shop and ask them to do it - that way if they bust the nuts and bolts they can fix it!

On an N/A Supra it's not a good idea to just remove the Cat (I tried that on mine and performance was awful)

There is a DIFFERENT front downpipe for Non-Cat versions, which I fitted to mine. (these are very readily available from most ordinary exhaust suppliers in the UK, but don't know about USA)

Basically the twin downpipes go straight into an extra front box that provides the right back-pressure the engine is designed for. This mates up with the main exhaust section, without the need for any extra pipe. You'll get an instant increase in power, as these are less restrictive than the Cat (let alone an old clogged-up one!)
