Hi Guys,
Since i bought my 1G she's always smoked when she first starts. Not an exessive amount and it dissappears as she warms. I also noticed a little bit during driving when i put my foot down . Its gradually been getting worse and i would like to fix it before it turns into somthing nasty.
I recall a while back reading somthing about a similar problem that turned out to be turbo seals? If this is the case, is a big/expensive repair and where would i start to look for parts?
Anyone got any ideas?

Valve stem oil seals I'd go for

Chances are its stem seals, although it could be to do with the breather system...
Turbo seals tend to smoke lots and all the time!

Stem seals? Where have you tried?
Try your local auto factors, they'll certainly gety ou plugs and leads. I use heat range of 7

I doubt a local motor factors can get 1G specific leads!
I got all my bits for my rebuild from toyota mate.

Right- I have located a set of plugs at 12 quid a shot. Seems about average? The leads and stem seals are no where to be found. I must have called about 6 local motor factors which seems a bit stupid really as most of them source their parts from the same catalogues anyway.
I really did not want to go to Toyota because its daylight robbery! Are they really that different from the 7M? Is it worth measuring them?

Oh – the stem seals are not the nicest job in the world and I cant say that I am looking forward to it but its got to be done at some stage. I’ve done it once before on my golf so should be ok…other than the fact I have 16 more valves to do!

Sorry, forgot it was a 1G. What plugs are you getting?
Don't know if it's the same as the 7M but if so you can get 6 for ~£10 off ebay

Like I said. You will NOT find 1G specific parts at a local motorfactors!
Trust me, I have just totally rebuilt one, and sorurced all the relevent parts!

One other thing, avoid "blue print" stem seals... they are rubbish ;)
Its a real effort to do the job.. I'd personally not want to have to redo it for the sake of saving a few quid first time round!
(like I have to do on my other halves 7M-GTE as the engine was rebuilt with inferior blueprint seals)

I'll have to dissagree on this one ... .. i have done loads of heads using the blueprint head sets and never had many issues with quality .. however i have had a few gasket sets with iffy stem seals regardless of make .. unfortunatly dependent on the storage time/conditions valve stem seals as a whole are very prone to perishing be them toyota oem .. adl ... fia or otherwise

I am refering to the engine your built fella.
Blueprint parts in geneal are shyte... my brand new leads were shot and showing visible sparks after about 9 months of use... (the ones you binned)
Worse still a mate of mine replaced all his ball joints/tie rods before a Nurburgring trip - with blueprint ones- to have one fail at speed on the track... sending him into both barriers and totalling his car.
It seems from my experaince that all their batches are consistantly bad... and blueprint parts are a false economy!
Rich what version/year epc do you have? I swear mine threw up different part numbers!
