Changed the timing belt, external drivebelts, and the thermostat at the weekend. Tried to undo the bottom pulley bolt with the braced bar/starter trick, but no joy. Took a 3-foot breaker bar and a hefty kick to shift it, with 2nd gear selected and the brake pedal firmly on. (And yes, I put blankets on the wings and top cross-member, so there are no scratches, dings or footmarks!).

The book says not to bother changing the timing belt unless it's done a lot of slow running in the past, but not knowing the full history, I'd rather be safe than sorry. The old belts looked OK, no cracks or fraying, but for some reason, the reassembled engine sounds so much better than before: maybe 'cos it's lost its thick coat of grime.

Still filling in time until the V5 turns up. . . . . . .

how many miles/years is the recomended change?

Every 60,000 according to Supra Owner's Manual, but with a footnote:
"Applicable when your vehicle is operated mostly at idle for extensive periods and/or driven at low speeds for long distances, such as police, taxi or door-to-door delivery service. If not, replacement is not necessary". Not, I think, the usual applications for a Supra. :)

My Supra has 150k kilometers on it. It is making some strange noises. I am going to change the timing belt, water pump and puleys this weekend. Should I do anything else while this is being done? Also will change the external belts.

Hi , welcome to the forum :action-sm congratulations on an excellent choice of car :)

While you`ve got the water pump off i`d stick a new thermostat in it as well .

I`m quite surprised that your struggling to find info about your sup over in Japan , it`s normally us stuck in the uk that find it hard to find/source parts & info :banghead:

It must be nice having all those trick part manufacturer`s/tuning companys and all their products at your disposal without all the hassle of shipping etc :D

When you've got the timing belt off, its really worth checking the belt tensioner as mine was seizing and making a bloody awful noise
