only on imports steve there is a button by the electric mirror adjuster that says retract and if pushed the mirrors fold in and then push again and they fold back out---IN THEORY lol

But they don't have heated glass, like the UK ones do ;) -Which I think is probably more useful!

This seems to be a problem mine gets from time to time and has never happened to Sheila's TT. It seems to be either corrosion in the plug behind the blanking plate where the mirrior fits, or an accumulation of smeg where the mechanisim moves the actual mirror head.

what I did initially, was to remove the mirror glass from the unit (carefully!) it should pull off bottom first. This may reveal half the spiders in england so be prepared! I cleaned this out thoroughly with soapy water agitated with a half inch paintbrush and then liberally lubricated with WD40 or suchlike.( mind the paintwork)
Then you need to clean the area between the mirror head and the mounting bracket, same cleaning method with he addition of a rag or similar to really get into the slot made by the mirror and bracket.

To check the connection, remove the black? triangular plate inside the door and it should reveal a small white connector. I think the power fold mirrors use 6 wires and the uk ones 4. Check the pins for corrosion and again a drop of WD40.

Hope that helps, if not, then I'm afraid it's trace the wires back time as I think there is another connector between the switch and door.

I don't know if you are nywhere near me, but if so, I do have a spare mirror, which coud be used to test.

You have retractable mirrors you nit! You just have to retract them by hand. Mind you, the powered ones are available from toyota at around £600 the pair.

A large sledge hammer across there ankles is a cheaper alternative
I was thinking along those lines, but was more inclined to a baseball bat or 3 cell maglite!

i chased some punks with the butt end of my pool cue before, when i heard them running over the escort, but i couldn't catch them, and that's the only time ive caught them at it
