Hi all;

Just bought my Supra a few days ago, and it has a fuel gauge problem.

When I collected the car it was on empty, so I filled it up, but the needle only rose very slightly.

The needle seems to move around in a random fashion, but only between empty and about 1/4 full.

Any ideas much appreciated, as its proably hazardous to rely on the trip meter.

Cheers from Carl

First thing to check is the connections to the Sender unit in the tank, as they could well be corroded, which would give you a false reading.

The gauges are normally pretty good . . . . although when you reach Empty it's actually when the warning light comes on, and you have more in reserve! (never been sure how much this is, but I've ended up driving 40 miles on Reserve and never run out . . . albeit panicking!)

Wot they said!! The sender coils are a classic for getting dirty on these cars at worst they can wear through.

Easy to get to tho through little cover under trunk carpet, the screws holding sender into tank may be rusty tho, WD40 required and normally a hoover to get all the road dirt off the top of the sender plate too!
