View Full Version : wheel nuts!!
ok got my new funky 3 spokes.. but standard toyota wheel nuts don't fit as the holes in the centres are too small to fit the standard nuts..
question is what nuts fit the standard studs?.. need to be quite narrow (the head of the standard nut fits in the hole , but it has a wide flange at the bottom which doesn't)
any ideas?
Cheers people!
the wheels might need the use of tapered nuts instead of the lug varitiy.
are the seats tapered?

I had the same thing doh! , took the wheel off and the new one wouldn't go on, went up to me local alloy shop, paid £20 for complete set of new alloy nuts.
Toyota's fault mate, designed so that any aftermarket wheels wouldn't fit.
dont forget to post some pics when you get em on.

The have a small taper, but the actual holes that the nut sits in are very small... i'll go and check it out at a local tyre place or Halfrauds.
Thanks!
I'm doomed with these damn wheels lol
Got a set of new wheel nuts, & locking nuts.. according to the guy at the wheel shop, standard fitment, but they don't damn well fit. the nuts go in the holes, but you'll need a very very narrow walled socket to tighten them. Plus the locking nuts 'key' doesn't fit in the hole either.
New nuts are 19mm. anyone know if there are smaller sizes available to fit the M12 studs?? (17mm maybe?)
Cheers,
Bryan

The ones you'll need are the ones that have an allen key fit in the top of them

Simmelar to these but instead of the random spline pattern it's a hex hole thats in them, sorry can't be bothered to look to find the actual ones you need but you know the sort your looking for now?

thats not the mkIII spirit now is it :)
I'll check mine out for ya tomorrow mate
Cheers guys. It just does seem these wheels have tight clearances for the wheel nuts. Worse case scenario is i'll grind down a 19mm socket to fit, just is a PITA to be honest. I'll check out the socketed locking nuts too
Wahoo sussed it :) Ended back down the wheel place earlier, got some socketed nuts (allen bolt type) plus some narrow body locking nuts, so all sorted... guy in the shop was incredibly apologetic, and swapped it all for nowt, plus gave me an adaptor for the new bolts. PLUG: Castle Wheels. Good bloke! btw the wheels are Rays 'Zeldas' ..

Lookin good, well done mate
Looking Good. The wheel colour suits the car. Are you going to polish the rims?

Yep i made a start, but they really need totally stripping and having a proper go over with a polishing wheel to get rid of the corrosion on the insides, and the trashed laquer/dents on the outsides.. Not got time to do it before Billing though :( I'm out of here on my trip a week saturday, and pretty solidly booked before then..
Also the downside of them is they obviously let you see all the disks/calipers etc, which are pretty poor looking and need some tlc..
In the few miles i've tried them out with, they stick like glue, but then i checked the tyre pressures, and they were all at 46 psi! i thought if felt bumpy lol
Question: guess standard tyre pressures will be wrong for these ?
Standard pressures won't be far wrong. The Supe has a wide range in it's "standard" pressure anyway. I would have though low to middle 30's. I think some garages have a gauge to measure the contact patch and work out the optimum pressure. Maybe ask your man at the wheel place?

Ok thanks. I'll try running them at mid 30's and see how it goes. I wonder what they were on to warrant 46 though! (actually it's a good point to check pressures with a proper gauge as a lot of garages gauges are incrediby inaccurate. Once place i remember was 10psi out!)
I'll drop by his place at some point just to let him know the bolts are sorted out, so will ask him..
Cheers!!
IIRC the fully loaded, high speed pressure on the Supe is something like 45PSI in the rear. I tried it once and it makes the ride a bit harsh! I think I run something like 33/35. I have standard tyres and rims.
