Sorry, I realise this qualifies as a stupid question but I don't know anything about autoboxes or flywheels so I asked. :cheeky:

The auto gets its mass from the Torque Converter, the ring gear is attached to a lightweight driveplate, which takes the place of the flywheel.
I seem to remember there is a really good description of it all at www.howstuffworks.com

Just checked, there is also a front page section on how Silicone Breast Implants work too.
