Hello Dino,

Many thanks for the quick response. Is it a good'un because I really want to get back on the strip and have a proper go at a few cars we saw last weekend!!!!

The price is fair. Could we do it all in for £85 to £90 do you think so I could have it in time for the weekend.

Sorted but many many thanks for looking. Got one for £63 incl del. Spoke to the bloke who says he is an engineer and the spindle has zero side play or end float and the vanes are clean. It even comes with all the pipework so that might just end up being a good one. If it is a minger then I will be back to you for yours if that is OK.

Thanks Dino. I was wondering, but he sounded OK so I am going to take a punt. At least this way if it turns out to be useless I still have yours as an option.

I checked mine tonight. I did not expect to see that the shaft had completely sheared. Quite a clean break as well but I have no idea what caused it. I assume it broke under load and the unsupported turbine spun out eccentrically and ruptured the seal on the compressor side. It certainly threw some oil down the intercooler pipes. I retrieved 1.5litres???? That counts for 1.5 of the 2 it took to get back to the full mark on the dipstick. The other 0.5 went up in smoke.

all in all it could have been much worse is the blades on the turbo damaged at all? u have to be careful that lots of sharp fast moving metel has flow from there down pipes check ur pipes if the blades have be foobared pal.

As far as I can tell - after taking off the intercooler pipes and cleaning all the pipes themselves there were no metal pieces in there. There is no guarantee that some did not make its way through in the split second the shaft broke etc but it ran OK with no boost and did not sound any different. There were some impressive clouds of smoke though.

All I can do for now is trust to luck until it fires up with the new turbo. If it did get some metal in the engine then all I will do is build an engine. That will be a good excuse to start something I have been meaning to do for quite some time.

Wish me luck.

lol good luck pal the intercooler should have stopped any big big bit's going as far as the engine, but keep inmind incase some has split a pipe if u can't make boost

When my turbo let go when parts of the accordian hose broke of i could not find any bits either. I lost most of the impeller blades on mine. No problems after the turbo was replaced so hopefully you should be fine.

mine let go in a huge cloud of smoke, i also got a litre of oil out the lower IC pipe when pulled off!!
the shaft snaped and the impellor moved over by 10-12mm jamming against the housing and removing quite a few blades!
had a huge cloud of smoke from exhaust when restarted and then all was fine, and that was coolio!!

(and yes, due to length of MBC pipes i had boost spikes like hell!)
