Mine has been making a 'not good' whiney bearing type noise while engaged for a while now, but recently the clutch has started obviously playing up too (makes horrible noise when cold even if not engaged, sometimes drags a bit when not engaged, pulley wobbles and moves visibly as clutch engages and now the clutch won't actually engage at all anyway).

I think it's probably wishful thinking, but could the original whiney whistling noise be related to the clutch too? At least that way I only have to change the compressor clutch rather than the compressor and the clutch!

Better do something soon as I don't fancy it failing completely and taking out the big serpentine belt that drives absolutely everything...

is it the same compressor as on the 7m?

it will be the ac clutch bearing .. the clutch is retained with a 10mm bolt and a snap ring ... the bearing is only made by natchi and costs around £45 but is much cheaper than replacing the assembly .. and no the comprressor on the 7m is different as id the clutch however they use the same bearing

Excellent thanks :) Where can I get hold of the bearing from? I looked in the EPC and got the part numbers for the compressor and the whole clutch assembly, but I can't remember off hand if there was a bearing listed separately. Will check when I get home tonight anyway.

Unfortunately the compressor seems to be unique to the JZA70 - the part number doesn't match the 1JZ powered Soarers or anything else as far as I can work out. So I really didn't want it to be that ;)
