It seems there are in fact two different heads available for the 7m motor. Both have the same part number and there is no year differential, so it's luck of the draw as to which one you have :banghead:
They are both interchangeable, but have different flow characteristics in the ports. One is supposedly better for porting/tuning work.

oh, and yes the ge and gte heads are the same, so relevant to the turbo peeps as well :p
