View Full Version : Clutch Master Cylinder
Hi Guys - its me............................... again lol
Right - ordered new master sylinder - however - on the old one the resevoir had completely drained dry, so obviously there will be air in the system. Can the master cylinder be bled? - and if so how do i do it - I can only find how to bleed the release cylinder - or is this where it needs to be done?
I would have thought that it WAS the master cylinder that needs bleeding after this but even looking at the diagrams I cant quiet figure out how to bleed it - its been one of those days at work today lol :banghead:
Again, any help appreciated
Cheers Guys

The line to each wheel has to be bled, keeping the master cylinder topped up as you go: the bleed nipples are on the brake caliper housings. Longest run first - I started with the R/N/S.

In my experience, bleeding the clutch hydraulic system is a simple drain-through. No pedal-action needed. Just open the slave cylinder bleed screw half-a-turn, keep the master cylinder reservoir topped up and let the old fluid drain through slowly. . . . . . Stop when the new, clean fluid shows in the tube/jar.

Cool - cheers guys
So the slave cylinder is ontop? of the gearbox? - I know what it looks like so i'll just have a hunt round for it around the gear box lol unless any of you want to give me a rough clue :)

on the right pretty much at the top you can see it by looking alongside the gbox from the engine bay
Right guys just been out and changed the cylinder over - what a b*std of a job - pretty straight forward but no room to work and my back is now knackered! lol
Just to check Ive done it right - the cylinder is topped up with fluid and primed but I havent bled the system at the release cylinder. The clutch pedal is now very springy if you push it slightly towards the floor it springs to the floor and stays there - and vice versa if you pull it slightly towards the driver with your hand it springs back up - but no in between measures so it wont be driveable - presumably this is correct until I bleed the system?
cheers guys

yea sounds about right,
just go open the nipple and let the fluid flow, until no air, you most likely will have to pump the pedal a couple of times though

Thanks for that m8 lol, oh and thanks for the advice as well lol :)
