Well its happened i think, coming home from work car temp guage went up to 3/4 , smoke , no adverse running , just smoke, got home 500 yards, shed emptied all coolant out, tried sticking some more in and nearly as fast as i was pooring it it was leakink from the what seemed water pump area. if u get a bhg does it leak from any specific area? or is is any where.
im hoping for a water pump NOT a bhg !!!!!

Sounds like it overheated cos it lost water, not the other way around.
But, overheating it MIGHT have clobbered the HG. Fingers crossed for you Stevie!
just been out to it now its cooled down, car is throwing coolant out from the what looks water pump as fast as im filling it up in the rad.
hopefully water pump (est 3 years old)
hg done id say 4
would a hg failure leak water in this way

tbh I think 3/4 temp would be ok, some of them run like that as operating temp, the smoke doesn't sound good, was it from the exhaust? or was it just steam from under the bonnet?
you say it leaks from what looks like the pump area, I would let it dry out and then fill it so you can pinpoint exactly where it is leaking from!
if it is the pump area then either the seal has broken/gasket ( if you have one ) or the pump itself has craked, to be leaking that bad i'd go with cracked!
I personally wouldn't worry about the HG too much at the moment, first thing to do is find out exactly where the water is coming from , resolve that problem then go from there.
How long was it running for after losing water?
yeah, im not worried (yeah right). been out again to have a looksie at the car, ,
no sludge or owt in the oil filler cap
tried filling it up with water , like i said the more i put in it went straight out of what looks like the bottom of the water pump, ive removed the top hose and pored water in rad, the top of the water pump is dry so its not leaking from above the pump.
when i said smoke i meant steam from the front of the car, id say it lost most of it quite fast, had to drive it lets say 1/4 of a mile to get home , no misfire no uneven idle just a bit of steam and hight temp range
cant do nowt now till tomorow when i get my new water pump.
so hopefully its all ok
will keep u informed :)

Remember Nik having this problem last month http://www.forum.mkiiisupra.net/showthread.php?t=2217
Turned out to be the water bypass hose.

Turned out to be the water bypass hose.
It was the bypass hose, it had perished and sprung quite a big leak.
Not too costly, just a ball ache to get to.
I did it tho, so anyone with a spanner or two should be able to :)

I had a similar sort of thing when I first got my Supra, with a leak from what looked like the pump. It happened after I changed the coolant - I've heard that antifreeze is good at finding leaks! Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised to find that a new waterpump was just £30 from my local motor factors, changed it and no more problems.
right, sorted
swapped water pump over, new gasket and all that , filled rad , still leaked :crybaby: ..
turned out there is a little pipe about 5 inch ontop of the water pump, that had given up the ghost, so thats where the water was coming.
filled up rad with water, good sign, just got to get air locks out now, but ive hot air in cabin
best thing is my water feed to the turbo sprung a leak aswell, unfastened it tried pulling it to get extra legnth and the gugger wasso brittle it snapped :)

Good to hear it stevie!
just been out to it now, no water leaks, had to top rad an exp tank up so either its got rid of the airlocks its self , or ive another hole :)
ran it for 10 mins no air bubbles , turne it off and listend to exp tank no bubbling .
so all being well im allright
just now ive realised ive broke my adapter for my k&n so ive no airfilter attached to my afm :)
oh it never ends
