View Full Version : Oversize throttle body. What's that all about then?
I've heard of people adding these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33558&item=7920360663 to their cars and I know that, obviously, it would let more air in but.
What would the actual effect be of replacing your throttle body with one of these gigantor ones?
Would it up your HP, torque, 0-60, top speed? What? By how much? Or is it one of those "remove the restriction and make the extra boost you dial in worth while" things?
I would have thought that it would improve throttle response on and off boost slightly. I would imagine that it could possibly hurt torque/HP off boost due to reduced velocities, but on boost it will be able to pass more air (assuming your turbo, IC and pipework are not restrictive) and therefore you should make more HP and torque. The OEM TB is 60mm I think. Turbo A is something like 65mm, but don't quote me. I think it is, as you say, one of those "remove the restriction and make the extra boost you dial in worth while" things.

No gains unless highly tuned mate. Without a doubt, you'd need a upgraded intake at the minimum, like we make for the MKIV.
We're thinking about doing the MKIV/MKIII hybrid conversion for the MKIII, but potential interest would only be minimal, so not sure if it's worth it.

Oh I'm not thinking about buying one I was just trying to reduce my stupidity quotient. :)

It doesn't matter how big a throttle body you put on if your IC (stock) only has a diamiter of 2 1/4" as with most things in life your flow is only as good as the smallest diamiter on your inlet. I would think having a huge thorttle body would lose you alot of low down torqe and make drivability off boost a nightmare.
