Hello, I always wanted to get a Supra and have bought a 1986 Mark III. I live in Japan where people drive on the proper side of the road :) The autos from the states are built backwards from my car. I am hoping that the UK spec autos and Japan spec autos are the same or at least close. I can get almost no infomation on my Supra. Does anyone have any ideals?

Welcome Ranma.

It's best that you ask specific questions. What would you like to know?

Hello and welcome! It is great to have some one from Japan on our forum. I am suprised that you have trouble with info over there. There are slight differances in the cars but very little and there is always a solution!

I think we should start a pool on how long it will take before he gets a message that starts "Ranma. Since you're in Japan, I was wondering if you could ..." :)

The problem is language and meeting people. I am in Japan since my wife is Japanese. There is a growing parts shortage due to the price of scrap metal. At least that is what the bloke at the recycle shop told me. He is a nice fellow, he repairs autos like Supra's and Silvia's if possible. if not they go on a one way trip to china!
The Local taste in auto's seems to be more in vans lately. Some of them are quite UGLY! The latest cute thing looks like a box on wheels.
Ah Black86, what are you looking for?

So where are you from, originally?

I am encouraged by all of the replies to my post! I worked all day yesterday changing the timing belt, water pump, bearing, tension bearing and belts. I had forgotten about the coolant so could not finish. I will go down to a shop this morning and get it. Decided to change the coolant hoses as well today. My Supra has not been well taken care of.

>So where are you from, originally?

Good question, I come from a land of confusion. :)

I am still working on my timing belt change. The Timing Belt case had developed a crack in it somewhere along the line and it needs to be changed. :crybaby: I am waiting on the part from Toyota. I have gone to the website http;//www.cygnusx1.net/supra but have discovered that my Supra is different. The water pump is of a different shape etc. I wonder if the technicial specs are different too. The people at Toyota seem to have the correct infomation. My car is from the first group of 86 Supra's.
Oh yes I discover that the last owner had put a cheap set of rims on the car and they are wrong.
I am begining to think this is all an exercise in futility :banghead:

Hey dude .. the tsrm and parts catalogs on http;//www.cygnusx1.net/supra are for the MA70 series of supras and yours is the GA70 series .. tech info for the GA70's is very thin on the ground and manuals are even rarer and only ever in Japanese

20-09-04, 02:04 AM
hey ed what is the difference between ma70 and ga70 is it just narrow bodied v widebodied and stuf like j spec lights?

darket69
20-09-04, 03:00 AM
The GA70's house the 1G-GTE,GE,GZE engine's .. the MA70's the 7M's and the JZA-70's the 1JZ engines... the chassis themselves only had subtle changes and are all more or less the same .. the only exeption to the rule being that the GA-70's being avaliable in both wide and narrow bodies

I need to replace the wheels since they push the tires outside of the fenders. What is the orgional equipment for a Japan Spec Auto? Were they steel wheels with hubcaps?

Need a bit more info Ranma mate ... is yours a wide or narrow bodied ga70? .. if so the narrow bodied supras are a different offset to widebody supras .. any chance of some pics ?

I see if that will be possible. I do not own a ditigal camera. Maybe my lap top and the Micro$oft camera will take a pic. However it is still at the dealer getting repaired.

The dealer put different tires on it for the repair since the others were "illegal". I think it is the narrowbody version. They are real fussy here. You have to look real hard to see the tires extending past the wings.
