PLEASE NOTE THIS IS AN OLD THREAD FOR REFERENCE ONLY, NO ACCURACY CAN BE GUARANTEED ON PRICES TO DATE

Name....Mick O
Paypal... michaeloliver622@btinternet.com

After my suspension noises i have decided to do the dreaded bushes.
I have emailed george at raptorracing and he can do the front and rear kits for $149 plus $55 shipping.
But if we can get three orders or more the shipping is reduced to roughly $27 each.
So if we can get three or more it will work out $177.00 USD

Reading an old group buy of these, the postage in uk is parcelforce 48hr ins upto £150= £10.99
So that will be £10.90+ paypal = £11.44
They also incurred a £5 custom tax each but there were twelve of them so maybe slightly more.

So $177.00 USD plus £11.44 plus Customs Tax
Myself and Suprapower are interested, just need another.........

There is a 3-4(maybe 6) weeks delay but i am in no hurry.

Here is the list of what you get:
Front Part List:

4- 2749 Upper Control Arm Bushings
4- 2748 Lower Control Arm Bushings

Right i have been in contact with George and he has given me his paypal addy so sometime sunday i shall post this up.
Whoever wants a set of these polybushes will then send payment of $149USD
to George.
Also put this message in your paypal payment "Supra Group Oliver", so he knows its a group buy and who they are for.

Once everyone has paid i shall send my payment off along with the total shipping costs which i shall then divide up and request payment from whoever is involved.

Eventually when they arrive at mine i shall sort out postage to whoever is involved and let you know.
I can sort out each persons shipping and postage together if you like which will save on the fees.

What you all say to that ????

Payments will be in Dollars as its going straight to the vendor, to save fee's etc, But all items will be shipped to Mick for him to send out to individual members,

Please Note, Any import duty will be split between all members of the Group buy, and shipping from Mick to members of the buy is not included in the first payment to the Vendor.

I'm interested, but I'm slightly confused about who I'd be sending the paypal to.

The paypal address in the initial post is for a BT Internet account, to 'Michael Oliver'. It's posted by a avatar, Mick3.0T, who's in Kent. And we're to send $149 US Dollars to this UK address? But its to be marked "Supra Group Oliver" and it's to be addressed to George?

if you read all the posts
Georges (Raptor Racing) paypal addy, will be posted sunday, you send your payment to him. and you mark it as supra group oliver in the comments box, when the bushes are made (can take upto 6 weeks) they will be sent to Mick3.0T who will post them to you.

Don't know if this helps but if you wanted you could send all of the payment to Mick3.0T via paypal for free

When you are in the send payment section there is a tab which says personal payment click that and send the required money with no paypal fees

Then you would have too add your address into the comments box, as it doesn't add an address,

Personally, I would stick to paying George direct, then just pay Mick for the shipping(both lots) and any customs charges.

It is the easiest way of doing it,
and unless your paypal account is already a business account, they hassle you to death about recieving payments.

I have a premier acc, Dont get any hassles about payments, So far!, But i perfer payments to go direct to the vendor for personal and legal reasons.
plus you then get a paper trail directly to the vendor should a problem arise.

Right before i post up the paypal addy, how many actually are going to buy these ?????
Its no point only two people buying them as we wont get any discount off the shipping.
And are we all happy that you will be paying $149USD to George at raptorracing to buy the kits.
These will be shipped to me and once i find out how much the shipping is it will be divided between all involved.
Then each of you will pay ME postage and i will post them out to you.
There may also be Customs Tax to pay which will also be split between us.

I think Mick is making sure he has enough people Def in to make it worth while, As he needs 3 people min to get the shipping discount,

when the Payment email is posted up, send the required amount for the bushes, then post up updating the list as paid,

Mick will then pay his share and ALL the shipping charges to the UK, these will then be split among all the member's in the buy, plus any import duty.

Hope that clears it up, I do hope this goes ahead,

Come on guys, please confirm with Mick that you do want to be in it.

With the exchange rates and economy in the state is in, this is a good deal.

Dont forget the pics when you fit them

Just thought I'd let you know it's these sets I have just fitted in my build thread if anybody did need to see them and has not already.

Also I did a thread on poly anti roll bar bushes which are off the shelf here in the yUK which may also be of interest as, these kits do not include the anti roll bar bushes which, will inevitably be shot too.

There are no rear anti roll bar bushes for the MK3 apart from some custom jobbies sadly only made by one guy in NZ, which makes them an expensive pair of bushes with shipping etc.

Handily tho, a set of Celica off the shelf bushes can be installed with an easy mod which is also detailed in the thread.

Build Thread (http://www.forum.mkiiisupra.net/showthread.php?t=26771)

Anti roll thread (http://www.forum.mkiiisupra.net/showthread.php?t=27641)

Thought I'd mention this too as, it's not obvious & you'll think your one bush short. One of the bushes on the rear hubs is not a bush at all and is in fact a ball joint. It's item number 42210 HERE (http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/EPC/291220/catalog.aspx?F=4804&P=1) All you need to do with this is pull back the rubber and refresh the LM grease inside.

If this ball joint is worn it can cause a "clacking" sound under braking etc.

May help a few of you anyways.

Any special tools required to do this job? I don't really like working under the car so may get mine fitted at a local garage if the job is too much of a PITA.

Martin P
18-07-09, 05:12 PM
No special tools required besides a huge breaker bar, lump hammer and some luck!

My lower ones had to be burnt out! as they where siezed solid, (the bushes not the bolts). and use plenty of grease on the bushes and bolts.

Also you will need to have a full 4wheel alignment done afterwards, to get all the wheels pointing in the right direction.

supradupra.com
19-07-09, 12:00 PM
Pat, if you do take it to a garage make sure they have a proper Press, pref hydraulic so they can just push the bushes out otherwise they just do it the same old way we do but, are not as careful!!

The top wishbone bushes are stupidly easy to push out just in a vice. That's a coupler for some old school steel water pipe acting as the receiver.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v320/supradupra/1jz%20Aero%20Build/JZA70Rebuild3.jpg

In honesty I would say they are all OK to do, just hard work, definitely easier in a good vice

I found drilling out the rubber around the central crush tubes of the old bushes then, using a vice and various bits of old water pipe etc to push the old crush tubes out worked well. If lots of the rubber is drilled out then the remainder just ripped apart as the tube pushed through. Got through a few drill bits as you get a bit trigger happy removing as much rubber as possible :)

This made it easier then to slit the outer casing of the old bushes with a hacksaw & cold chisel them inwards and push out.

The rear hub bush one of the most awkward to get to, just because it's at a silly angle & that bit smaller so hard to grip etc. Allegedly you can do this without removing the hub by using a puller. It needs to be a puller of biblical strength tho :banghead:

Front lower wish bone Bushes are a little bit of a swine due to the fact they have a folded metal tab round them which either needs to be cut off or cold chiselled over.

Due to the shape of the front wishbones I drafted in Mum to give me a hand with them. I just chiselled over the metal tab all way round then, we got them in the vice with a bit of old water pipe and some other piece of random metal we save for such occasions - think it was an old lower ball joint knuckle - with 2 of us on the vice the old bushes again went crack and just pushed out.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v320/supradupra/1jz%20Aero%20Build/BushingsremovedSmall.jpg

It's kinda down to luck of the draw really.

Tip for the cam bolts, if you find them seized. If you have access to an SDS drill with chisel only option, with a fine point chisel these can come in real handy for pushing them out as they vibrate the fook out of the rust freeing it up. Can work in places the lump hammer refuses to.

The fine point chisel means you don't damage the end of the bolt.

Next weeks tip, how to make glue from an old cat...

mick3.0T
19-07-09, 02:12 PM
Managed to do my nearside lowers this morning and all the bolts came undone without too much hassle
I remembered about the allen key in the little link bar ;)
Once the lower wishbone was out i just done as mark3 did and burnt out the rubbers then just hacksawed through the thin sleeve that was left and got a small cold chisel and tapped the sleeve out.
Cleaned up the internals, greased them up and the bushes just pushed straight in
The only hard bit was trying to do up the cam bolts with the car sat on the floor as there isnt alot of ground clearance to get me belly under :D
But out and back in again in about 4 hours.....not bad i think ;)

I assume the car was on axle stands? so jack the vehicle up on the end of the wishbone till the weight is all on the jack and just of the stand! then leaving axle stand inplace (just in case) tighten away!!

mick3.0T
19-07-09, 02:37 PM
Yes the car was on axle stands, didnt think of jacking up the wishbone doh

What sort of torque are they meant to be as i just did them up nice and tighty with a half inch breaker bar !!

How the hell do you torque up the big front lower bolts to 240Nm when most 1/2 drive torque wrenches only go up to 210Nm ?????

Get a beast of a breaker bar/torque wrench (like mine:)).

I've had problems removng the bolts from the lower wishbones on the front. I can take the nuts off but the bolts appear to be fused in the bushes and no matter how hard I hit them they don't want to come out...

Am I missing something, or a technique for getting these out. Has anyone else had the same problem?

Binxy69
01-09-09, 12:17 PM
and if I cut them off, does anyone know anywhere to get replacement bolts that won't cost me £16 a bolt like from Toyota :-(

supradupra.com
01-09-09, 12:22 PM
Do you have an SDS drill to had with rotary stop allowing just chisel action?

If so, pop a pointed chisel bit in there, pop the nut back on the end of the cam bolt so as not to damage the thread then, using the SDS drill on hammer only, try driving the bolt out with that.

The high frequency chiselling action of the SDS can vibrate these bolts and free them, well worth a go before hitting the hacksaw

Binxy69
01-09-09, 12:28 PM
So it is literally a case of getting enough percussion on the bolt to force it out...

I don't have an SDS drill I'm afraid, I cut one side off over the weekend expecting the bolts to be like maybe a fiver, without checking with toyota coz it was the bank holiday. I was so proud of myself.... Damn

I've now got the other side to get off, and I'm not sure how to approach it, guess i just need to hit it harder...

If i understand correctly these are the bolts that have marked washers on them to set the geometry?
I found that if the bolt turned while taking the nut off it tightened against the wishbone (to move the geometry) and wouldn't come out. Backing the bolt off a bit (1/4 turn) allowed it to move and could easily be tapped out.
I didn't think the bolt would turn 360 degrees due to the washer?

Front bushes are now fitted. The improvement in drivability is amazing, you can feel so much more through the front end. I'm going to start on the rear bushes very soon.

I'll second that, missing out on the group I but bought a set anyway as my front bushes were in a right mood and the front end was slopping about all over the shop!

Vast improvement since I fitted the fronts though, they've really tightenend up the front end and now I decide which direction the car goes, also cured the knocking noise I had when stabbing the brakes or going over bumps.

Result :)

Thanks for e-mailing the pdf's.

I got this e-mail back from George :-

Jonathan,

I’m soooo sorry. I thought I replied to this but obviously I didn’t . Pricing of the parts is as follows:

Front Kit: $59.50
Rear Kit : $89.50

Shipping: $42 regular; $90 express

Shipping price is the same whether you take one or both sets. The best way to drop the price is the get other chaps in on the deal to share the shipping. Keep in mind though that I only have 2-3 sets in stock…so if you get more there will be a 5 week delay till I am able to get them to you.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.

I'll confirm if there are 2 or 3 sets available.
Ollie, did you want a full set or just the front ?

Cheers

Excuse the bump, but can anyone translate this in to "no1 lower arm", "strut rod" and no2 lower arm"

4- 2753 Lateral Link Bushings
4- 2754 Rear Toe Link Bushings
4- 2755 Rear Trailing Link Bushings
4- 2756 Spindle to Trailing Link Bushings
10- 15.10.167.39 (.875”O.D x .562”I.D x 1.960”L)All Positions except spindle to trailing arm position.
2- 15.10.20.39 (.875”O.D x .562”I.D x 1.800”L)Spindle to Trailing Arm Position.

Im guessing "spindle" is the hub?

Not sure what the spindle is either, however there are instructions with diagrams at:

and

Rear - http://www.energysuspension.com/assets/files/pdf/17522.PDF

Still unsure about this. REFERENCE (http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/manual.aspx?Section=RA&P=56)

I guess the "rear trailing link" is the strut rod,
"rear toe link" is no.1 lower suspension arm
"lateral link" is no.2 lower suspension arm

Any help from someone whos fitted these?

I posted this back at beginning of this thread mate, should help you out:

It's item number 42210 HERE (http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/EPC/291220/catalog.aspx?F=4804&P=1)All you need to do with this is pull back the rubber and refresh the LM grease inside.

If this ball joint is worn it can cause a "clacking" sound under braking etc.

May help a few of you anyways.

Yes as some are not available from toyota without buying the complete arm/ assembly.

Would this work out cheaper than replacing all with genuine Toyota Rubbers?

Definitely, Mr T are looking in the region of £500 just for the bushes. So the Energy Performance ones from MKIII did the job rightly.

You also have to factor in the cost of new bolts and fitting - In the end I had to replace the bolts ( they were completely seized ) - around £140-170 from MrT and then fitment (took 2 days solid labour (16hrs work).

Since the motor is lowered a good bit, camber etc all had to be set up afterwards - so in the end replacing the bushes on the motor cost nearly £1k..

BUT-- It was definately worth it - The car drives great, and you can throw it into corners etc, that you just couldn't do before.
