red fading is common on any car, its all to do with oxidising,

Tcut normally does the job but if its that bad, you wil need to spend atleast 20-30 mins on each panel,

tcutting and polishing a car should take you 2 days and then do onece a month atleast and spend approx 3-4 hours polishing / cleaning.

all depends on how much u love your car :)

look out for any polish with cutting agents in it,

Mer is very good for shine but doesn't have a lot of cutting to it.

afraid the main advice is just to work hard at it and avoid rubbing too hard or you'll have no paint left :)

mines gone that way, especially on the plastic nose + rear spoiler. after the couple hours it took to get the bonnet relatively nice ive never even attempted the rest.
i was using T-cut and it was taking f'king ages. but it was a hot sunny day which wasnt making it any easier....

I had this conversation years ago with a good local bodyshop, their opinion was not to use T-Cut but to use a cutting compound, and then a decent polish.
I never did ask them why not to use T-Cut, but I've always used cutting compound since then with great results.

I always thought that "cutting compound" was unbranded T-Cut so I never bought it. What is it then?

I use Faraclay G10 (really fine rubbing compound), with a damp rag and because the compound takes off all your wax, i redo that with macquirs gold, although i have just found clear-vu (Turtlewax) which doesn't leave a white residue, excellent on any car other than white !!!!

Dunno, comes in a tin like shoe polish does. More of a paste than liquid.

Cutting compound is comonly used for bodywork repairs, as Nick says, it is a paste in a tin or a squirty tube which is used to remove orange peel and cut in new paint to old. hence the name.

man have i gone through some of that stuff :)

But, once you've used that on your car half a dozen times you must be through to the metal?

well yea but you dont use it that many times on the same car!

If you cut it all back to original colour now and then treat it good ( with polish once a month ) then you should never need to use it again.

Cut it back, once its the original colour take it to a body shop and have it sprayed with 2 pack clear laquer. You will never have to cut it back again, and it will shine like new. Its so simple I don't know why Toyota don't do it as standard, Oh yes I do, it costs more.
