Rite then with new disks and pads on their way I was wondering about the anti squeel shims fitted to the front pads..
Is anybody running without these? do the y make much diffference?
Mine have pretty much desitergrated, I seem to remember being quoted silly prices by Toyota for them, are they needed or not?
I think they were called anti squel shims for the obvious reasons you can run without them but run the risk of having squelling brakes is the down side
I took mine out for the same reason. They do squeel slightly but only when light braking at low (less than 20MPH) speeds. I'm going to buy some new ones one day. I don't think they have any effect on braking performance.
I haven't had any for ages and never noticed any squealing.

Mine squeeled like a little piggy when the garage forgot to refit them with my new pads :(. I now new shims from toyota only £20 and no piggys :D
Also to bear in mind is that the shims may act as a heat dipersant too, rather than have the piston straight onto the friction caused by the pads!

still got mine and it doesn't squeel but they are in p1ss poor condition but if they cost 20 quid then that's the way they will stay.
Historically, I`ve always thrown the shims away in favour of a coating of copper grease and never had a squeal yet. Mind you, I haven`t done this on the Supra yet, but I can`t imagine it being any different.

Please note the dates on threads before replying them please. As James said this is years old.
