F!cken suspension shop is, literarally, gonna be the death of me!

I dropped my car off to be serviced and asked my mechanic to check out the work that the other a$$holes did on my suspension.

Simon brings the car back and tells me that, technically the car is an MOT failure because the braided brake hoses are rubbing on the shock, wishbone & the ARB. I go "So put them where they're supposed to me then.". Problem, he can't figure out how to route the hoses from the hard pipe to the caliper without it rubbing on stuff.

He thinks it's because I've got 25mm lowered suspension & aftermarket calipers but I can't be the only one.

The only clamps we can find are the clamp that the hard pipe & hose meet at, the clamp on the shock (Q have they put the shocks in backwards? Should the clamp be on the back or the front of the shock body?) and a kinda split ring thing, on the hub, where the hose slips through.

HELP! Exactly, in COMPLETE idiots terms, should the route be? :notworthy

LOL

if i had a camera i'd take pics of mine. but i dont. :crybaby:

my fronts are a 2 piece set that replace the oem ones. theres a sort of clip mount that attaches to the back of the dust cover with 2 bolts. this suspends the hose without it touching anything else.

Dillinger's right, Ian - in the stock setup, the hose is held firm in the bracket by a sliding retainer on each side: one's a kind of two-pronged 'wedge' and the other's a large circlip.
Looking at the metal section that joins the two hoses, you'll be able to see the grooves in the surface for the retainers to engage either side of the bracket. HTH.

Thanks guys! The diagrams a big help, ta!

What about further back the hose? Towards the chassis. What's the route, from that clip behind the hub, to the clip at the pipe end? The diagram looks like the hose goes up through the top wishbone? Does it go front side, or back side?

Can you lead me through the route?

From the pipe, the hose goes?

Through the clip on the shock? Is the clip on the front or back side of the shock?

Then where?

On my '89 shed, there isn't a clip on the shock body. Instead it goes:
Solid pipe emerges from body to body-mounted bracket. Then flexi-pipe to another body bracket. Then flexi-pipe to caliper bracket. Then the flexi-pipe curves round to front of caliper. Here are some piccies (apologies if this takes ages to load):

Out of the body to bracket:

Same bracket top right, to body bracket next to shock, then to caliper bracket:

Brake shot from front. From caliper bracket, the hose curves round to where it attaches to the caliper:

Hope these help...

Ah, forgot to say: I don't have any shock-mounted brackets on mine. All the brackets are body mounted.

I think the shock bracket is for the ABS sensor wire.... Hang on, I'll have a look.... <dashes outside and pokes head under car> yep, abs sensor wire.

I have my caliper off and suspended ATM, but this should show the hose join on the backplate alongside the shocker. Not sure what the other 'hose' is (ABS, maybe?) without going out in better light. Also attached a pic to hopefully show the run of the 'not sure' 'hose'..

I'll get some more tomorrow when the light's better. Sorry about the weird angles, but it was a case of 'stick it behind the wheel and hope it's in the right direction'... :)

Yep, the brake hose is at the back of the picture, running along the body like mine. The black thing in the foreground running out from the body to the wishbone clip, then to the shock-mounted clip and on to the caliper is the ABS sensor wire.

I couldn't get this angle on my pics because I still have the wheels on!

Sorry there, Delphius - think we both posted pretty much simultaneously... :cheeky:

Hey, no need to be sorry, yours show up what the shock bracket's for, so between us we've sorted things out.

Ian, I just had a thought: If there's enough slack in your brake hoses, in order to keep them away from the shock, all you have to do is duplicate the standard layout by having a p-clip holding the hose near the body at the same point, just before the hose goes off to the caliper.

Motorcycle accessory shops have rubber-lined p-clips to carry brake hoses.

Demon-Tweeks have some here:
