Yes the heater core is fun to remove! I can get the dash out in under an hr now! just ask Mark1g-gte or Ben LOL.

its easier to drop the coloumn down and remove the steering wheel. And a manual car is easier as you can remove the gear lever.

rite guys just sat at work havin a lil think on what a need to get the car up runnin and ready for its first MOT in about 4 years that i can see.

New disc's and pads all sound
Both rear dampers (this is where i could of done with those that were on here a few weeks ago)
2 new tyres for the back
Rear offside arch rebuilding
Tailgate seal
Rust on back panel sorting out somehow since its a hole now
Rust where the cable would go for the brake light in the spoiler
Front bumper changed over

Anyone have any idea how easy it would be to put in a digi dash and happen to know where to get one.

Need to get a new exhaust as the one on it has rot settin in on the back box

Any help in this would be great

right head is not far off been out gonna have to leave it the now gettin far to windy and cold now and plus am full of the old cold

is it worth gettin the egr blanking plates for it while am on with it

Kai
06-12-09, 06:26 PM
Personally, i don't like the idea of EGR, and by now most systems wont be working anyway - full of gunk. Might as well take it off.

seacombe2379
06-12-09, 07:32 PM
aye ur prob rite with that kai ill get a set off here if there is any going cheap

seacombe2379
07-12-09, 08:49 PM
rite asked around a few guys at work and a company kepy coming up about gettin the head skimmed and that was jem engines so i phoned them £50 for a sim which aint too bad reli so i asked them about seein to the valves on re seating and £5 each not including labour valve stems as well for the same then he axked what state ill be dropping in at i told him it would still have the cams in so he is gonna check over the full head re-profile the valves as req and check all clearances full clean down too for 700 all in what u lot think

Kai
08-12-09, 07:57 AM
If i were you - make sure the head isn't bowed...skimming it true will ******** up your cam journals. Also, i'd get the minimum amount taken off...if you can get away with 2 thou, get only 2 thou - the more you take off, the more you're altering the squish ratio of the combustion chamber.

£700 sounds a lot for just the head...what does he mean by 'reprofiling' the valves? Why not clean the combustion chambers yourself with a brass wire wheel, have them hot tank the head, skim 2 thou off it, and then re-do all the clearances yourself?

seacombe2379
08-12-09, 08:33 AM
goto this site which they have there gonna do the works to the head check everything on it

www.jemengines.co.uk

they build 2ltr and 2.1 pinto engine from scratch and work on all others they will check for warpage of the head aswell.

Kai
08-12-09, 08:41 AM
Well, i'd say that 90% of that, on a 7M head, would be redundant, unless you wanted it ported and polished/port matched for high HP. A simple skim would be sufficient, as well as regrinding the valves. I could be wrong, but i've not heard of anyone here needing a single valve seat replaced.

Our heads are very soft alloy, the LESS buggering around with cutting bits, the better - you may end up with a junk head.

seacombe2379
08-12-09, 12:04 PM
well he is only gonna check the seating and see if it all lines up correcty then go from there if ur sayin a skim will do thats good cause its cheaper for me but the shims will prob need doin anyway

Kai
08-12-09, 12:12 PM
Shims are easy to do yourself - JSeaman's guides both here and on supramania will explain it :)

Ford Zetec shims are cheaper than Toyota ones, and fit fine.

seacombe2379
08-12-09, 12:23 PM
hmmm isnt there a club shim kit kicking around somewhere.

did you look at there website

08-12-09, 01:50 PM

What do the lines follow back to, is it actually another lube oil cooler or is it a hydraulic oil cooler?

Is yours an automatic?

Just thinking someone may have fitted an external auto cooler instead of the one in the bottom of / as well as the water rad cooler?

ah that explains things but thought it also had one inside the rad for that too???

i don't think the one in the bottom of the rad is of much use, i've had an alloy rad fitted for a few years without a "cooler" inside, and i've never had any problems with the auto box

seacombe2379
02-01-10, 03:20 PM
stuey as for your line er tried i get lost and its dark and too low to get underneath at the moment to get under her to see i will find out more when i get the axle stands next week but i always thought even in the tsrm it only shows the trans cooler in the rad and the oil cooler to the right of the IC ill have a better look later on in the week

the ones in bottom of rads are just a way to warm them like a heat exchanger cause the gear box will take longer to get upto workin temp so aid the warm up and keep waear down but thats what i think i might be wrong

If you read the bible on the forum, you can use jz pullies, they need spacing and the timing mark is in the valley of the tooth not the peak.

unless your going to give the block and head a machine finish, stay clear of the HKS stopper MHG, (it needs to be fitted to manufacturers instructions)
a more forgiving MHG would be the 1.4 mm one from SIP

on this site..

Head prepped to approx ra30-40? Ed Will know, block cleaned and smoothed as much as possible Have a look on supramania there are thread's on there about the subject, Again Ed will be able to guide you, amongst others on the forum.

Make sure the Block is prepped well, as my mhg is leaking slightly! and i reckon its gasket to block, but I'll know when it comes apart lol.

seacombe2379
30-01-10, 01:48 PM
got the elbow from the states cause they dont do them here wasnt much think it was around £65 including shipping welding on the flange at the base where it mounts the downpipe is shoddy but its fine by me just have to see how it goes better than the standard one

right took me all day to tidy the garage (how the hell i managed to move with all that in there i dont know lol) car is back in had to push her in with the mondeo cause i couldnt get it up the ramp into the garage

noticed once i had moved the car back into her home all the stuff i had dropped when i removed the engine plus a few stray connectors that had come off the loom at the water elbow i know where one goes its a blue connector so that prob come from the blue wire with no connector on it then there was a grey one no clue where that goes but that will be the other one missing on the floor

anyway back on axel stands tomorrow then off with the shocks ready for the bilstiens coming

LEX AFM is going up for sale soon so ill get a few pics of that for you lot.

thats it for now take it easy but not to easy

john89t

That lead go's to one of two VSV's that are attached under the inlet manifold, the front vsv is for fuel pressure and the one towards the rear of the engine is for the egr,
although if the egr has been removed that vsv won't be needed, so there might not be one there, hence the lead hanging loose, (don't worry, it's not doing any harm :))

Well thought id give you a lil update no pic's yet at work.

Rear offside brake caliper is finally fitted just gotta bleed the system prob flush it aswell cause god knows how long that fluid has been sat in there.

Never made it to its mot yesterday as no where near ready still waitin on someone doin this welding on the car :(

Still waiting on a few bits from Ed (Darket) to arrive so i can get this thing fired up need to know the timing is right on it before anything.

Need new wiper's and two tires for the back and hopefully that will be me.

Realisticly there is a days work including painting but its taking so long cause of waitin for parts :(

God i just want this back on the road so much just want to drive her now its so so close.

My hard work will pay off in the end and it will be worth it.

supradupra.com
21-04-10, 09:35 AM
Definitely flush the system of brake fluid mate, it makes a huge difference to the way brakes feel. Personally I'd do it every couple of years to keep that pedal good and hard!

I love how easy the Supra zorst is to fit & am glad too, it has to come off for a fair few things! I can do it shut eyed now :)

Know what you mean on wanting to get on the road. I could be MOT'ing today, instead I'm pulling the fully tested, fully working, undisturbed water pump.... :banghead:

seacombe2379
21-04-10, 09:42 AM
Water pumps dont ya just love them.

I put a new one in just to make sure cause they are a royal pita to do and the engine was out at the time so funk it why not good job too cause the thing looked like it had seen better days those pressed blades wernt upto much.

Time is all i need and i dont get much with the missus and the wee one but dont get me wrong she helps out a great deal and i thank her for that.

And the wee one like to run round the garage in her walker while am workin bashing into everything and playing with the fuel tank filler cap lol bless her.

Some twat nearly took us out earlier tonight when we were on the way home after leaving the motorhome back. There was a line of cars coming towards us when this guy pulled out of the middle of them to overtake. I had to stand on the anchors and actually stop in the road or it would have been a head-on. After all the polishing I did for the Motorfair I would have been miffed to lose the Supra lol

Started doing a lil tinkering last nite and started to wire in the maft pro.

Made the start up alot easier and the idle is alot better too.

Took it for a quick run down the road low revs all seemed ok until opening her up a bit. pig rich aint the word lol popping farting and the odd back fire lol.

Stopped disconnected the black box all is well :) looks like i need to look into the fueling side of life on the maftpro might be set for 550s.

Just need to drill the 3000 pipe for the ait sensor

Right time for a small update on the maft setup.

Couldnt for the life of me work out why she was running so rich till i 'poked about on SM for a few hours a day for the past week or so (dont worry i wasnt runing her like that for that long) till i found i was adding 15% right across the range.

Changed it all to pullin 5% and god what a difference afr is bang on and the fuel gauge hardly moves now am well chuffed.

All i need now is a hybrid and maybe a set of 550's but ill see how far i get with these bad boys first.

If anyone running maftpro want a copy of the bin let me know ill post it up.

They are the stock front speakers (kevlar cone) & they are actually very high quality components  The rear speakers as standard before the foam surround dies are also top quality bass/mid units with quite an impressive magnet to boot & good bass response.

If the fronts have been looked after they are absolutely spot on sadly, most have been killed 20 years & 9 tentative stereo installs down the line.

In a nutshell,

If your 10cm fronts ain't blown then they are still up to boot with modern day units, particularly with bass filters installed.

The rears are good speakers but, have now been superseded by higher end modern equivalents such as Infinity etc.

For the facelift interiors the larger front door speakers became the usual factory fit passable units so, should be binned!

The tiny speakers each side of the rear seat are bass blocked high mid/treble units & again, of the more everyday quality you get from manufacturers so, should be binned :)

The factory amp should always be binned as, it adds weight & is underpowered compared to modern standards so, will only ever hinder sound quality.
