20w40 is a little thick.
I'd use a good quality semi synth 15w40

Ring your Toyota dealer as they should be able to send you any parts, failing that, we do.

Sorry made a b*lls up on the oil viscosity should have been 10/40. How much postage do you charge on a filter?.

the 86.5 and early 87 is different from 87-92, I found this out the first change I did when I got the car 3 years ago, drained the oil and then found out the filter was different :banghead:

made a call and got the correct one delivered

i bought a blue print filter a week ago at the same time as my ht leads not fitted yet i got some carlube gold 10w-40 oil the guy in the shop (a good mate of my dads)said itd be the best affordable oil to use he seems to like this stuff

You can get it from partco and most other motorfactors ..

Got correct filter today and it is a Fram PH5300. The cut off for this filter is 1986>8/87 after that it is a smaller filter 8/87>1993. By the way on the box it says "Made in Japan" so is likely the same one Toyota sell.

I've got a Champion C105 on mine.

Anyone want to add makers part numbers, just for reference?

no offence but pattern part filters usually suck .... the Toyota part is a ceramic element type and the very best filtration/flow because of this .... stop being tight and fork out the extra £3 :cheeky: .. you never know you might save yourself a set of bigends later

Like I said the filter is made in Japan and cost nearly thirteen quid so I don't think its crap. :rant: How much is the Toyota one? If all patern filters are crap there must be a lot of cars driving around with knackered big ends as hardly any non franchise mechanics use car makers filters. If the filter was that critical why did Toyota in their wisdom change the size of the filter after Aug '88 to one that is only half the size thus reducing the flow rate and with less filtration surface. :duck:

I wasnt actually aware that the filter size changed .. all the supras i have done have all used the same filter .. so ill look into that one .. but ill stick with the general rule that some pattern part factors are a weeny bit budget and this reflects in the quality of the goods ... and also anything bought from halfords is stupidly overpriced and their parts guides are usually wrong ... it like the listings for the supra include a 3.0lt and a 3.0l Bi turbo ???and you paid £13 for a framm filter ??? ... they are usually about £5

Didn't get Framm filter from Halfrauds (took theirs back as wrong size) but from a motor factor I use regularly. This is correct price as it is quite large, check out part no yourself, Framm PH5300, this filter was only used on 1986>Aug'87 Supras. So unless you have worked on early models you won't have come across them, the smaller filters do fit, but leave a wide band of bare block to go rusty (not a good idea). :no:

hey i've been using that stuff for a bit now it good stuff get it from my local road rally car parts centre. infact i've had so much stuff from them i get a discont only cost me £8 for 5L of carlube gold 10w40 :) mind you i don't know if thats good or bad!! i get all of my car stuff from them apart from the oil filter that is :happy3:

ill have a look 2mora if its wrong ill have to take it backit is a small one but i think the existing one is quite smallish aswell i did a service on the sierra the other week and was surprised to see the size of the filter on that it was feking huge and that the twinky sierra engine takes approx the same amount of oil as a 7m ge

According to my motor factor the changeover from large to small filter was 8/87. Have a look at the size of the mating face on the block, if the filter is too small it will leave a ring of bare metal showing. Although the small filter will fit as the thread is the same.
