Hi all, I am new to this forum but have been reading for the last few days and think its a great site, would love to come see you all at a show sometime soon and see the other mk3's around, anyway on with the question lol

I have an 88 supra and have just tonight noticed that my passenger side headlight isnt working right, its sidelight bulb seems fine but the main headlamp and high beam are not working, obviously i am thinking this is just a blown bulb but then i think, i have eard nasty stories about people changing bulbs in cars with pop up headlights, Can anyone give me any advice on how to go about the simple job of changing the bulbs without ripping my arm off lol

Thanks and keep up the great site

Darren

the fuse is marked rtr on the fuse box cover. other than that its pretty much the same as any other car once your passed the headlight cover

just wind them up with the manual winders they are just inside each light. once you hav changed the bulb turn your lights on then off to reset their position.
its that simple.

unhook the battery first if you're using the winders !! I got my hand trapped by doing it that way...

Can someone just explain, I'm confused.

1. Disconnect battery
2. Disconnect fuse
3. Wind up manually?

Is it 1, and 2 or 3

Or is it all of them?

just pull the fuse out "rtr" it stops power going to the relay

Well, all of them really, they're just different ways of doing the same thing.

Basically all you need to do is pop up the headlights, then stop them retracting, which means removing power to the motors. You can do that either by taking the RTR fuse out, or disconnecting the battery.

If you remove power first, then you have to wind them up manually, but there's really no need, as long as you remove power once they are popped up.

Why take out fuses etc when you can just put headlights on then turn back to posistion one on switch and lights stay up but are off?

Yep, it's in the owners manual:

"Raise the headlights and turn the lights off with the headlamps raised. Then pull out the "RTR 30 A" fuse.

Caution: Unless power is disconnected, there is danger of the headlights suddenly retracting and causing injury."

I had heard elsewhere of people losing their hands because of not removing the fuse, something to do with the car thinking the lights turned off with the bulb out and therefore snapping shut........?

Thanks for clearing up my question, so basically:

1. Headlights up
2. Turn off lights
3. Remove RTR fuse
4. Change bulb

I think a guide should be produced, maybe simple, but the risk of injury warrants it.
